Food Drive

IT’S SCARY TO BE HUNGRY

La Mesa…The City of La Mesa Human Relations Advisory Commission is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the San Diego Food Bank. The food drive will be held on Saturday, October 17, from 8:00 am to noon in the municipal parking lot (Farmers Market site) at 8130 Allison Avenue, along Date Avenue. The drive-thru drop off will be fast and convenient – no need to get out of the car.

Hunger in San Diego County is a very real problem. According to the San Diego Food Bank, hundreds of thousands of people face “food insecurity” on a daily basis which means that little or no food is available at home and they do not always know where they will find their next meal. Of the 3.1 million residents in the County, 15.2 percent, or over 475,000 people, live in poverty. Of this number, over 138,000 are children.

The Food Bank needs non-perishable items such as canned meats, dry or canned beans, cereal, rice, nuts and seeds, peanut butter, canned soup, canned or dried fruit, canned vegetables, powdered milk, pasta and infant formula. Sorry, we are unable to accept: glass jars, including baby food, home-canned, or baked items

Questions can be directed to 619.667.1167.
