Fall Fitness Palooza
San Diego Oasis Hosting a ‘Fitness Palooza’ to Spotlight Fall Prevention Week
San Diego Oasis, a local nonprofit organization supporting successful aging, will host a ‘Fitness Palooza’ with a selection of exercise demonstrations that support better balance, staying active, and preventing falls. Co-sponsored by United Healthcare, an all-day event on Thursday, September 7, 2017 will include 20-minute sessions to highlight the vast selection of exercise and
dance classes offered throughout the year by San Diego Oasis.
The National Council on Aging encourages events like this to raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. It is estimated that 1 in 3 older adults fall every year. Falls are considered the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and hospital admissions for trauma. At the heart of this special recognition is that falls are preventable, and that they are not a normal part of aging.
What can you do to prevent falls? Increases activity, assess medications for dangers, have your vision checked, be aware of your surroundings – especially at home, and use a walking aid if you need one.
San Diego Oasis offers over 50 exercise and dance classes, at all levels of activity. Our expert instructors tailor the classes to older adults, with lots of tips and demonstrations to ensure a positive experience. From Soul Line Dancing to Zumba Gold and Tappercize, to Yoga, Meditation and Ballet, we have something for everyone over the age of 50.
Our ‘Fitness Palooza’ is open to everyone. Join in to see which classes are right for you. Sign up on the spot. Pick up a copy of our new Fall 2017 Catalog to see the full selection. Starting at 9:30am at Grossmont Center Mall in our Wellness Center at 5500 Grossmont Center Drive in La Mesa and at Escondido Senior Center 210 East Park Avenue in Escondido.
