East County Intergenerational Games

La Mesa… On Thursday, October 8, from 9:30 to 12:00 noon, adult athletes age 50 and older from East County are teaming up with elementary school students for the annual East County Intergenerational Games in La Mesa.
 
            This marks the 10th year the City of La Mesa hosts the Intergenerational Games event.  The games are held at La Mesa Arts Academy, 4200 Parks Avenue. Students from 2nd through 6th grade are paired with active adult’s age 50+ to compete in a circuit of non-competitive, fun activities.
 
            The Opening Ceremonies will feature; Tim Shelton, Director of Player Development for the SDSU Men’s Basketball Team and former player for five seasons on Montezuma Mesa.
 
            Thursday’s field games include T-Ball Hit, Frisbee Toss, Horseshoe Pitch and Soccer kick to name a few. The activity stations are non-competitive, with an emphasis on confidence building, camaraderie, and breaking down stereotypes between the generations.  Closing Ceremonies will follow with each participant receiving a medal and certificate.
 
            The La Mesa East County Intergenerational Games are organized through the City of La Mesa in partnership with the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, the County of San Diego Aging & Independence Services and Health & Human Services Agency East Region, AARP, Oasis/CATCH Healthy Habits, East County Family YMCA, and many other community partners. Funding for the event is made possible through SPRITES of East County INC., La Mesa Lions Club and private donations.
