46th Annual Barona Powwow
The Barona Band of Mission Indians invites San Diegans to experience Native American culture at the 46th Annual Barona Powwow which will be held on the Barona Indian Reservation at the Barona Sports Park over Labor Day Weekend. This three-day celebration kicks off on Friday, September 2 with Gourd Dancing at 6 p.m. and a spectacular Grand Entry of dancers in colorful regalia at 7 p.m. and continues throughout the weekend on Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 p.m., making this a weekend of culture immersion.
Over 1,000 Native American participants from across the country will showcase their dancing as they compete for over $75,000 in prize money. In addition to Tribal dance contests with participants of all ages, spectators can also enjoy the Hand Drum and Men’s Fancy Dance contests. Traditional singing and music, as well as several vendors selling favorite Native American foods including Indian fry bread and Indian tacos as well as beautiful handcrafted Native American jewelry and crafts.
The Barona Powwow will be held at the Barona Sports Park located just one mile north of the Barona Resort & Casino on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. Admission and parking to this event are free. Free shuttle service is also available from Barona Resort & Casino to the Powwow.
